Adler Group Earns Energy Star Rating for Four Buildings in Doral

MIAMI – February 3, 2010 - Adler Group, one of Florida’s oldest and largest commercial real estate firms, has earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) prestigious ENERGY STAR 2009 CERTIFICATION, the national symbol for superior energy and resource efficiency  for its office buildings located on 7925, 8095, 7955 and 8175 all on NW 12 Street in Doral, Fla.  Only commercial buildings that rate in the top 25 percent of facilities in the nation for energy efficiency may qualify for the ENERGY STAR CERTIFICATION.

“The ENERGY STAR CERTIFICATION represents Adler Group’s commitment not only to  energy efficiency and good indoor air quality but most importantly to our tenants. While being energy-friendly, we also reduced costs and operating expenses for our tenants,” said Michael M. Adler, chairman and CEO of Adler Group. “Particularly during challenging economic times, we understand the significance of keeping costs down for our tenants and are making similar adjustments to our other office buildings.”

Commercial buildings that earn the ENERGY STAR use an average of 40 percent less energy than typical buildings and also release 35 percent less carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Adler Group improved its energy performance versus an established base line by making cost-effective improvements such as  converted fluorescent lights from T12 to T8, monitored operating schedule when spaces are not occupied, reduced water consumption by using less water for landscaping, and programmed thermostats at its four buildings.

“Whether you are running a grocery store, a school, or an office building, getting the most out of your energy dollars- while reducing your carbon footprint- just makes sense,” said EPA Administrator Stephen L. Johnson.

ENERGY STAR was introduced by EPA in 1992 as a voluntary, market-based partnership to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through energy efficiency. Today, the ENERGY STAR label can be found on more than 50 different kinds of products, new homes and commercial and industrial buildings. Products and buildings that have earned the ENERGY STAR designation prevent greenhouse gas emissions by meeting strict energy-efficiency specifications set by the government. In 2006, Americans, with the help of ENERGY STAR, saved about $16 billion on their energy bills while reducing the greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those of 27 million vehicles.
